隔天早上，將軍在約定的時間造訪阿花的家，發現阿花已穿上最美的衣服，坐在客廳裏。雖然阿花化著妝，卻難以隱藏她因爲一整晚都在哭，臉上的淚痕及黑眼圈。

「快點，我們没時間拖拖拉拉的！」將軍冷冷地說。

「將軍大人，我不會收您的錢，因爲我不是在賣女兒。但請您好好對待她。」阿花的父親用著不流利的日語懇求著，並試圖將前一天將軍給他的那袋黃金物歸原主。然而，將軍完全無視老人的懇求，一把將他推開，使老人重心不穩，跌在了地上。將軍拉著阿花離開了，並抓著她顫抖的手來到了大稻埕，臺北的舊市中心區。

「身爲我們偉大的大日本帝國的將軍夫人，妳應該穿得像樣點。過來，我幫你買幾件和服讓你穿回去。」將軍用著比之前溫柔一點的語氣說。

說畢，兩人便進入了一間裁縫店。裁縫師幫阿花丈量了一下三圍後，便開始製作。不到一小時的時間，兩人就走出了裁縫店，阿花臉上畫著濃濃的日式妝容、頭髮梳成了包頭、身著豪華的白色日本和服，彷彿變了個人似的。然而，她一點兒也不開心，只是低著頭、不發一語。

就在這時，阿發不巧剛好從一條小巷子走了出來，看見阿花與軍官從裁縫店走了出來。

「等等，那不是阿花嗎？她爲何跟著一個日本鬼子？」阿發心想。「不對，這不可能。一定是我認錯人了！」

Le lendemain matin, à l'heure convenue, le général retourna à la maison d'Ahuey pour découvrir qu'elle était déjà assise dans le salon, entièrement habillée de ses meilleurs vêtements avec son père à sa côté. Malgré le maquillage de la belle fille taïwanaise, elle ne put pas cacher les marques de larmes sur son visage et ses yeux de panda causées par une nuit entière de pleurs.

"Allez, il faut partir, nous n'avons pas de temps à perdre", dit froidement le général.

"Je ne prendrai pas votre argent, car je ne souhaite pas vendre ma chère fille. Mais, s'il vous plaît, prenez soin d'elle", déclara le père d'Ahuey au général en utilisant son japonais cassé alors qu'il proposait de rendre le sac d'or du général. Le général ignora simplement le pauvre vieil homme taïwanais en le dépassant.

Ensuite, le général tint la main tremblante d'Ahuey alors qu'il la conduisait vers Dadaocheng (ou Twatutia en Hokkien), le vieux centre-ville de Taipei (ou Taihoku, comme les Japonais l'appelaient) à l'époque.

"En tant qu'épouse d'un général japonais, tu devras d'abord regarder plus japonaise. Viens, je vais t'acheter des kimonos", déclara le général d'un ton plus doux qu'auparavant.

Après que le général eut fini de parler, ils entrèrent dans un magasin de tailleur, dans lequel il commanda des kimonos sur mesure pour la belle fille taïwanaise. En moins d'une heure, les deux sortirent de la boutique de kimono, Ahuey ayant fait peau neuve. Portant maintenant un kimono japonais blanc et luxueux, Ahuey avait les cheveux attachés dans un chignon de style japonais avec du maquillage sur son visage. Néanmoins, elle n'avait pas l'air la moins heureuse. Son regard était jeté sur le sol et son esprit pensait à Ahuat et à son cher père.

À ce moment, comme s'il était convoqué par Ahuey, Ahuat sortit d'une petite ruelle, juste à temps pour apercevoir Ahuey et le général qui étaient en train de sortir du magasin de kimono.

"Attends, ne c'est pas Ahuey? Que fait-elle avec un homme japonais?" se demanda Ahuat. "Non, cela ne peut pas l'être. Mes yeux doivent me tromper!"

The following morning at the appointed hour, the General revisited Ahuey's house to discover that Ahuey was already sitting in the living room, fully dressed in her best clothes with her father by her side. Despite Ahuey's makeup, she was unable to hide the tear marks on her face and her panda eyes caused by a whole night of crying.

"Come on, we have to go, we don't have time to lose," said the General coldly.

"I will not take your money, as I do not wish to sell my dear daughter. But, please take care of her," said Ahuey's father to the General using his broken Japanese as he offered to return the General's bag of gold. The General simply ignored the poor old man as he pushed past him.

Afterwards, General Yamata held Ahuey's trembling hand as he led her towards Dadaocheng (or Twatutia in Hokkien), the old city centre of Taipei (or Taihoku, as the Japanese called it) at the time.

"As a Japanese General's wife, you will first have to look more Japanese. Come, I will buy you some kimonos," said the General, in a gentler tone than before.

After the General has finished speaking, they entered a tailor's shop, in which he ordered some custom-made kimonos for the beautiful girl. In less than an hour's time, the two walked out of the kimono shop, with Ahuey having had a total makeover. Now wearing a white, luxurious Japanese kimono, Ahuey had her hair clamped up in a Japanese-style bun with some makeup put on her face. Nevertheless, she did not look the least happier. Her gaze was cast on the ground and her mind was thinking of Ahuat and her dear father.

At that moment, as if he were summoned by Ahuey, Ahuat strolled out from a small alleyway, just in time to perceive Ahuey and General Yamata walking out of the kimono shop.

"Wait, is that Ahuey? What is she doing with a Japanese man?" wondered Ahuat. "No, it cannot be. My eyes must be fooling me!"

那天下午，一名陌生的日本軍官造訪了阿花的家。前去應門的阿花的父親開門後，嚇了一大跳。他還來不及詢問其造訪之由，將軍便拎著一個小袋子，大搖大擺地闖進了家裏。將軍坐下來後，用手指著顫抖中的阿花說：「這裡有一袋金子，收下它。作為交換，我要娶妳女兒為妻，」將軍說著日語，阿花的父親聽得不太明白。「我在台灣的任務已完成，最近被宣布調回祖國。所以，我想娶一個台灣姑娘回去。我選擇了你的女兒，因爲她非常漂亮。我明天下午就會坐船回日本，早上會來接你女兒。没有必要爲她準備嫁妝，因爲她的婚禮將在日本擧行。我只要你在早上七點準時準備好，不要讓我等！」

「將軍大人，我們不需要錢，請您不要帶走我的女兒，」阿花的父親用著不流利的日文說。然而，將軍絲毫不理會可憐的老人的請求，站了起來，便轉身離開了。

Cet après-midi-là, un invité inconnu visita la maison d'Ahuey. C'était un général japonais. À la grande horreur du père d'Ahuey, après l'ouverture de la porte et avant que le père d'Ahuey n'ait eu le temps de demander le but de sa visite, le général qui tenait un petit sac fit irruption dans la maison, s'assit sur une chaise et pointa du doigt à Ahuey, qui était effrayée.

"Voici un sac d'or. Prend-le et je veux que ta fille soit ma femme", déclara le général en japonais, ce que le père d'Ahuey pouvait à peine comprendre. "Ma mission à Taïwan est terminée et a récemment été déléguée à la grande patrie. J'ai donc décidé de ramener une fille taïwanaise chez moi comme épouse. J'ai choisi ta fille car elle est belle."

That afternoon, an unfamiliar guest visited Ahuey's house. It was a Japanese General. Much to Ahuey's father's horror, after the door was opened and before Ahuey's father had the time to ask for the purpose of his visit, the General who was holding a small bag barged into the house, sat down on a chair and pointed a finger at the scared Ahuey.

"Here is a bag of gold. Take it and I want your daughter as my wife," said the General in Japanese, which Ahuey's father could barely understand. "My mission in Taiwan has ended and has recently been delegated back to the great motherland. Thus, I have decided to bring a Taiwanese girl back home as my wife. I have chosen your daughter as she is very beautiful."

「阿發，你怎麼突然這麼嚴肅呢？」漂亮的台灣姑娘～阿花說。

「因爲這是一件正經事，」阿發回答說。「我決定等到下週秋收過後，我將收成的農作物在市場上賣到了好價格，就要去妳家提親。」

C'était un matin d'automne lumineux et ensoleillé à Taipei en 1898, trois ans après que les Japonais prirent le contrôle de Taïwan. Une jolie adolescente marchait avec un beau jeune fermier, coiffé d'un chapeau conique en bambou chinois dans les rues de Dadaocheng. Ils conversaient en Hokkien taïwanais, une langue courante parmi les habitants à Taïwan sous la domination coloniale japonaise.

"Ahuey, j'ai décidé quelque chose dont je dois vous dire", déclara le jeune agriculteur.

"Pourquoi êtes-vous soudainement si sérieux, Ahuat?" interrogea Ahuey, la belle fille taïwanaise.

"Parce que c'est quelque chose de sérieux", répondit Ahuat. "J'ai décidé que la semaine prochaine, après que les récoltes auront été récoltées et que je les aurais vendues à bon prix sur le marché, j'irais chez vous pour demander l'approbation de vos parents pour notre mariage."

Après avoir entendu cela, le visage d'Ahuey se colora et elle balbutia immédiatement. "Ahuat, cela n'est pas drôle! Le mariage n'est pas une chose si banale pour vous de plaisanter!"

"Non, je suis parfaitement sérieux", répondit Ahuat en s'arrêtant soudainement, il tint les mains d'Ahuey et la regarda dans les yeux. "Ahuey, voulez-vous m'épouser? Je suis un pauvre fermier et je ne peux pas vous donner une vie de luxe, mais je peux garantir que mon amour pour vous est vrai. Je sais que nous étions des compagnons d'enfance, donc j'ai toujours traité vous comme une sœur. Cela n'est que récemment que j'ai découvert que mes émotions pour vous dépassaient celles d'une sœur, mais en tant que personne que je risquerais ma vie pour protéger et pour laquelle mon amour ne mourra jamais. Ahuey, voulez-vous m'épouser ? "

Ahuey était surprise par la proposition soudaine d'Ahuat, car il avait toujours été le chéri de son enfance, mais elle n'avait pas osé le lui dire, car elle sentait qu'il ne la traitait que comme une sœur. Maintenant qu'elle découvrit son amour pour elle, le cœur d'Ahuey s'agitait comme un papillon. Elle hocha seulement la tête doucement, après quoi Ahuat sourit avec bienveillance.

Néanmoins, aucun d'eux ne remarqua une ombre sombre qui les espionnait tranquillement derrière les buissons.

It was a bright, sunny, Autumn morning in Taipei in 1898, three years after the Japanese took control of Taiwan. A pretty, teenage girl was walking with a handsome, young farmer, wearing a Chinese bamboo conical hat on the streets of Dadaocheng. They were conversing in Taiwanese Hokkien, a common language amongst Han Chinese in Taiwan under the Japanese Colonial Rule.

"Ahuey, I have decided on something which I have to tell you," said the young farmer.

"Why are you suddenly so serious, Ahuat?" questioned Ahuey, the beautiful Taiwanese girl. 

"Because it's something serious," replied Ahuat. "I have decided that next week, after the crops have harvested and I have sold them for a good price on the market, I will go to your house to ask for your parents' approval for your hand."

大夥兒一整個下午都在三多商圈逛街購物，Eliza和傑佛瑞都分別買了一些紀念品回去送給親戚朋友。

「蒂芬尼會喜歡這裡的！」Eliza 一邊看著商店裏五花八門的商品說。

「哇！你們看！」傑佛瑞指著眼前一幢摩天大樓驚歎道。「這棟摩天大廈的形狀怎麼這麼特別啊！！」

「哦～那是高雄85大樓啦！」孝恩立刻上網查了一下說。「85大樓是高雄第一高樓，目前也是台灣第二高樓，樓高378公尺。於1997年落成時曾為台灣第一高樓，後於2004年被臺北101超過。」

「378公尺！？那比樓高306公尺、全英國以及西歐第一高樓～碎片塔還高上數十公尺呢！而且85大樓還比碎片塔早落成了15年，」傑佛瑞說。「台灣是一個亞熱帶島嶼，時常有颱風，又位於地震帶上，居然還能蓋出那麼多棟具代表性的摩天大廈，眞是太驚人了！看來，在臺灣不管是古老還是現代的建築物都令人非常驚艷呢！」

Le groupe d'amis passa toute l'après-midi dans le quartier commerçant de Sanduo à Kaohsiung, Taïwan. Eliza acheta beaucoup de souvenirs pour ses amis et famille.

"Tiffany adorerait ça, quel dommage elle peut pas venir", déclara Eliza en passant devant des boutiques de vêtements et des magasins qui vendaient des cosmétiques, des sacs à main et des robes à prix réduits.

"Wow, regarde!" s'exclama Jeffrey en apercevant un gratte-ciel super haut.

"C'est le Tuntex Sky Tower", déclara Shaun. "C'est le plus haut gratte-ciel de Kaohsiung et le deuxième plus haut de Taïwan, qui culmine à 378 mètres au-dessus du sol. Il a été construit en 1997 et était le plus haut bâtiment de Taïwan avant l'achèvement de Taipei 101 en 2004."

"378m? C'est beaucoup plus haut que la Tour Eiffel!" répondit Jeffrey. "En tant qu'île située sur une ceinture sismique, il est étonnant que Taïwan possède autant de gratte-ciel emblématiques. Il semble que l'architecture moderne et traditionnelle de Taiwan ne cesseront jamais d'étonner!"

The group of friends spent their entire afternoon in the Sanduo Shopping District. Eliza bought some souvenirs for her friends and relatives. 

"Tiffany would love this," said Eliza as they walked past clothing boutiques and shops selling discount cosmetics, handbags and daily goods. 

"Wow, look!" Jeffrey exclaimed as he perceived a uniquely designed super tall skyscraper in the background. "I like its unusual 'prong' design with two separate sections that merge into a single central tower rising to a spire."

"That's the 85 Sky Tower," said Shaun as he searched information on his phone. "It's the tallest skyscraper in Kaohsiung and the second tallest in Taiwan, which rises 378m above the ground. It was built in 1997 and used to be the tallest building in Taiwan before the completion of Taipei 101." 

"378m? That's a lot taller than the Shard, which is the tallest building in the UK!" replied Jeffrey. "As an island located right on a seismic belt, it's a wonder that Taiwan has so many iconic skyscrapers. It seems like both modern and traditional architecture alike in Taiwan never cease to amaze!"

經過90分鐘的時間，大夥兒抵達了高雄左營高鐵站。他們轉乘高雄捷運抵達了他們在網上預訂的旅館，將行李擱下後，便開始城市觀光。

第一個景點是高雄捷運大站～美麗島捷運站，因其特殊造型的公共藝術『光之穹頂』而著名。

「天哪！這裡太美了吧！」Eliza 讚嘆完立刻拿出智慧型手機自拍、打卡。

「這裡簡直比教堂還要美！在這裡結婚一定非常夢幻！」傑佛瑞仰望著由4500片彩繪玻璃鑲嵌而成的穹頂說。

「在這裡拍婚紗一定更浪漫！」Eliza 說。

「說到浪漫的地方，高雄還眞不少呢！」布萊說。「我們下個景點前往真愛碼頭，如何？」

Après seulement environ 90 minutes de voyage en train de grande vitesse, le groupe d'amis arriva à la gare de Kaohsiung Zuoying. Ils montèrent à bord du métro Kaohsiung jusqu'à l'emplacement de leur hôtel réservé à l'avance, ils placèrent leurs bagages dans leurs chambres respectives et commencèrent immédiatement leur visite de la ville.

Leur première destination était la station de correspondance centrale entre les lignes de métro - la station du boulevard Formosa, qui est célèbre pour son œuvre d'art publique "Dôme de lumière", qui est la plus grande œuvre de verre peint au monde.

"Wow! C'est incroyable!" s'émerveilla Eliza en sortant rapidement son smartphone pour un selfie.

"C'est encore plus joli qu'une cathédrale. Ce serait un endroit cool pour un mariage", déclara Jeffrey en regardant avec admiration les 4500 panneaux de verre peints.

"En fait, le Dôme de la Lumière est offert comme lieu de mariage de masse", répondit Blythe.

"Mon dieu! Ce doit être tellement romantique!" admira Eliza.

"En parlant de lieux romantiques à Kaohsiung", expliqua Blythe. "Et si on allait au Quai d'Amour ensuite?"

After around 90 minutes of train journey, the group of friends arrived at Kaohsiung Zuoying Station. They boarded the Kaohsiung metro to the location of their pre-book hotel, placed their luggage in their rooms and immediately started their city tour. 

Their first destination was the central interchange station between metro lines - the Formosa Boulevard Station, it is famous for its public artwork "Dome of Light", which is the largest painted glass work in the world.

"Wow! This is amazing!" marvelled Eliza as she quickly took out her phone for a selfie.

"This is even prettier than a cathedral. It'd be a cool place for a wedding," said Jeffrey as he stared in awe at the 4500 painted glass panels.

"In fact, the Dome of Light is offered as a venue for mass weddings," replied Blythe.

"OMG! That's so romantic!" admired Eliza. 

"Speaking of romantic places in Kaohsiung," said Blythe. "How about let's go to the Love Pier next?"

決定由Claire留在台北照顧生病了的蒂芬尼後，大夥兒便回去睡回籠覺，補個眠。早上八點，他們準時出發前往台北火車站，準備搭乘高鐵前往高雄。

「我好期待去高雄喔！」傑佛瑞說。「網路上都說高雄有很多好玩的地方，卻被大多數的外國觀光客忽略了，因爲大家都只注意到繁華的首都台北。可是他們都說：若是没去過高雄，幾乎等於没來過台灣旅遊。」

Après avoir décidé que Claire resterait à Taipei pour s'occuper du délirant Tiffany, le reste du groupe retourna se coucher pour dormir un peu plus. Puis, à huit heures du matin, ils partirent pour la gare de Taipei pour prendre le Train à Grande Vitesse de Taïwan (THSR) vers la ville de Kaohsiung.

"J'ai hâte de visiter Kaohsiung", déclara Jeffrey. "Savez vous que c'est la ville la plus sous-estimée de Taïwan! La plupart des gens se concentrent uniquement sur la capitale et n'ont pas exploré au-delà de Taipei, ce qui est certainement dommage."

After having decided that Claire would stay in Taipei to take care of the delirious Tiffany, the rest of the group went back to bed to get some more sleep. Then, at eight o'clock in the morning, they set off to Taipei Railway Station to catch the Taiwan High Speed Train to Kaohsiung. 

"I can't wait to visit Kaohsiung," said Jeffrey. "It's the most underrated city in Taiwan! Most people only focus on the capital city and didn't explore beyond Taipei, which is certainly a shame."

「這背後一定可以用某種科學現象解釋，」孝恩說完便拿出智慧型手機，將其當作手電筒，照在古畫上。然而，畫中的人像還是没有出現。突然，他靈機一動，衝到廚房去，到了一杯水回來後，便用水沾濕手指，輕輕的將水灑在古畫的表面上。可是，這些動作都絲毫不起作用。

「現在咱們先把這幅畫給忘了吧！」突然，布萊的外婆開口說。「你們今天還有很長的旅途在等著你們，所以你們現在需要的是多多休息，別因爲一樁小事兒而影響了你們的心情。」

說畢，布萊的外婆便試圖將古畫從牆上取下來。然而，即使她費盡了九牛二虎之力，古畫卻彷彿在牆上生根了一般，一動也不動。Claire 不信邪，也去試試。然而，就在她拉扯的同時，不愼將古畫的一角撕破了。就在此時，蒂芬尼瞬間暈了過去，躺在和室的地板上。

「天哪！蒂芬尼姊姊，妳還好嗎？」布萊問道 。然而，蒂芬尼卻什麼也聽不見了。

"Il doit y avoir une explication scientifique pour tout ça", suggéra Shaun en sortant son smartphone et en l'utilisant comme une torche pour éclairer le portrait. Néanmoins, la femme dans le portrait était introuvable. Puis, il avait soudainement une idée. Après se précipita dans la cuisine, Shaun revint avec un verre d'eau et utilisa ses doigts pour faire couler quelques gouttes d'eau sur la surface du portrait, mais toutes ces actions étaient en vain.

"Oublions pour l'instant ce portrait." Soudainement, la grand-mère taïwanaise parla. "Vous avez tous un long voyage en train devant vous aujourd'hui, alors vous devriez vous reposer et ne pas laisser cet événement trivial vous affecter."

À la fin de son discours, la grand-mère de Blythe tenta de retirer le portrait du mur. Néanmoins, à la grande horreur de tout le monde, le portrait semblait avoir été ancré au mur et ne bougerait pas du tout, peu importe leurs efforts.

Dans sa tentative de retirer le portrait du mur, Claire déchira accidentellement un petit coin. À cet instant, Tiffany s'est évanouie et tomba sur le sol.

"Mon Dieu! Ça va, Tiffany?" s'enquit Blythe, mais Tiffany ne pouvait pas l'entendre.

"There must be a scientific explanation to this," suggested Shaun as he took out his smartphone and used it as a torch to shine light onto the portrait. Nevertheless, the woman in the portrait was still nowhere to be found. Then, he suddenly had an idea. After rushing to the kitchen, Shaun came back with a glass of water and used his fingers to dapple some drops of water onto the surface of the portrait, but to no avail.

"Let's forget about this portrait for the moment." Suddenly, Blythe's grandmother spoke. "You all have a long train journey ahead of you today, so you should get some rest and not let this trivial event affect you."

On the conclusion of her speech, Blythe's grandma tried to remove the portrait from the wall. Nonetheless, to everyone's horror, the portrait seemed to have been rooted to the wall and would not budge no matter how hard they tried.

In her attempt to remove the portrait from the wall, Claire accidentally tore a small corner. At that instant, Tiffany fainted and fell down on the tatami floor.

"Gosh! Are you okay, Tiffany?" enquired Blythe, but Tiffany could not hear her.

三更半夜，Eliza 睡覺睡到一半，突然被一陣淒厲地尖叫聲吵醒了。睡眼惺忪的她揉了揉眼睛，從床上坐起來後纔發現原來是蒂芬尼。

「蒂芬尼，妳頭殼壞掉啦？」Eliza 瞄了一眼梳妝台上的鬧鐘後大駡道。「現在纔凌晨三點，妳在鬼叫些什麼呀？妳再不閉嘴、回去睡覺，全屋子的人都要被你吵醒了！」

「不見了！不見了！」蒂芬尼用著顫抖的聲音重複地說。

「什麼不見了？妳的腦子嗎？」Eliza 回應道。

Au milieu de la nuit, Eliza se réveilla avec un cri aigu et assourdissant. Elle se frotta les yeux et s'assit dans son lit, seulement pour découvrir que ce n'était autre que Tiffany.

"Qu'est-ce qui va pas avec toi, Tiffany?" cassa Eliza après avoir regardé le réveil sur le dessus de la commode. "Il n'est que trois heures et demie du matin! Tais-toi et retourne dormir, sinon tu réveilleras tout le monde!"

"Elle a disparu! Elle a disparu!" s'écria Tiffany d'une voix tremblante.

"Qu'est-ce qui a disparu? Ton cerveau?" répondit Eliza agacée.

In the middle of the night, Eliza woke up to a deafening, shrill scream. Bleary eyed and bushy tailed, she rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed, only to discover that it was no other than Tiffany. 

"What's wrong with you, Tiffany?" snapped Eliza after glancing at the alarm clock on top of the dresser. "It's only half three in the morning! Shut up and go back to sleep, else you'll wake everyone up!" 

"It's gone! It's GONE!" exclaimed Tiffany with a trembling voice. 

"What's gone? Your brain?" responded the annoyed Eliza.

「眞是個愉快的一天啊！我都不知道台北有這麼多好玩的地方。」Eliza走進臥室後和蒂芬尼說。蒂芬尼一路上從士林夜市搭捷運回到布萊外婆的公寓都不發一語。

「好啦，蒂芬尼。我要去洗個熱水澡，然後去睡覺了。世界上再也没有比熱水澡更能消除疲勞的方法了。所以，是妳要先去洗，還是我先洗？」Eliza 問道。

然而，蒂芬尼只是坐在鏡子前面，看著自己的倒影，彷彿若有所思一般。看著蒂芬尼心不在焉的樣子，Eliza只好嘆了一口氣，拿起了浴巾、睡衣及盥洗用品後，走去浴室。

"Quelle journée amusante! Taïwan est un pays si intéressant!" dit Eliza quand elle et Tiffany entrèrent dans leur chambre. Tiffany était exceptionnellement calme tout au long de son trajet dans le métro de Taipei, du marché nocturne de Shilin, à l'appartement de la grand-mère de Blythe.

"Ok, Tiffany. Je vais prendre une douche avant d'aller dormir, car la journée a été longue et qu'il n'y a rien de mieux pour enlever son fatigue qu'une douche chaude. Tu veux aller prendre une douche d'abord, ou dois-je y aller en premier?" questionna Eliza.

Néanmoins, Tiffany resta assise devant le miroir, fixant son propre reflet, comme perdue dans ses propres pensées. Puis, voyant que Tiffany ne faisait pas attention, Eliza soupira, attrapa une serviette, son pyjama et ses articles de toilette et se dirigea vers la salle de bain.

"What a fun day!" said Eliza as she and Tiffany entered their bedroom. Tiffany was unusually quiet throughout their journey on the Taipei metro from Shilin Night Market back to Blythe's grandma's apartment.

"Right, Tiffany. I'm gonna to take a shower before going to sleep, as it has been a long day today and there's nothing better to wash away your fatigues than a hot shower. Do you wanna go have a shower first, or shall I go first?" questioned Eliza.

Nevertheless, Tiffany just sat in front of the mirror, staring at her own reflection, as if lost in her own thoughts. Then, seeing that Tiffany wasn't paying attention, Eliza sighed, grabbed a towel, her pyjamas and toiletries and headed to the bathroom.

快九點時，Claire和蒂芬尼來到了大家預訂集合的地點後，發現布萊和傑佛瑞已經在那裡等了。

「我去廁所，跟大夥兒說一下我去去就回！」Claire 跟蒂芬尼說完便朝著公共廁所的方向走去。

蒂芬尼走向傑佛瑞和布萊時，發現布萊站在一個古董攤前，並正在凝視著某樣東西。

「她在看什麼啊？」蒂芬尼指著布萊問傑佛瑞說。

「布萊說她發現了一樣有趣的東西。」傑佛瑞聳聳肩說。「我倒覺得没什麼特別的，除了畫中的那個女人看起來挺正的以外。哈哈！」

Quelques minutes avant neuf heures, Claire et Tiffany arrivèrent à l'endroit désigné où ils avaient promis de se retrouver une fois leurs achats étaient terminés, seulement pour découvrir que Blythe et Jeffrey étaient déjà là.

"J'ai besoin de faire pipi. Dites aux autres que je reviens," murmura Claire à Tiffany en se dirigeant vers l'une des toilettes publiques sur le côté.

Tiffany se dirigea vers Jeffrey et Blythe, seulement pour apercevoir cette dernière se tenait devant un étalage d'antiquités, regardant fixement quelque chose.

"Qu'est-ce qu'elle regarde?" Tiffany demanda à Jeffrey en faisant allusion à Blythe.

"Blythe a semblé avoir trouvé cette peinture très intéressante", répondit Jeffrey en haussant les épaules. "Personnellement, je ne vois rien d'intéressant à cette peinture, si ce n'est que la femme sur le tableau me semble très sexy. Haha!"

A few minutes before nine o'clock, Claire and Tiffany arrived at the appointed place where they promised to gather up after they have finished shopping, only to find that Blythe and Jeffrey were already there. 

"I need to pee. Tell the others that I'll be right back," whispered Claire to Tiffany as she headed to one of the public toilets on the side. 

Tiffany walked towards Jeffrey and Blythe, only to perceive the latter standing in front of an antiques stall, staring intently at something. 

"What's she looking at?" Tiffany asked Jeffrey as she alluded to Blythe. 

"Blythe seemed to have found that painting really interesting," replied Jeffrey, shrugging. "I, personally, don't see anything interesting about it, except that the woman in the painting looks pretty hot to me. Haha!"

參觀完了國立故宮博物院，大夥兒前往知名的士林夜市嚐嚐道地的臺灣小吃。

「噢買尬，我吃了那麼多台灣美食都要發胖了啦！」Claire 看著各個攤販上賣的琳瑯滿目的美食後說。

「那你應該去聞聞臭豆腐。保證妳聞完後，食慾全消！」布萊開玩笑道。

「這主意挺不錯噠！」傑佛瑞回答道。「我早以久聞臭豆腐的大名，可是卻一直没有機會嘗試。這次，我倒想聞看看它到底有多臭！」

傑佛瑞纔剛說畢，大夥兒立刻經過了一間販賣『深坑臭豆腐』的店。臭豆腐濃濃的味道撲鼻而來，彷彿在挑戰大家是否有膽來嚐鮮。

「哇～這眞是出乎我所料的臭啊！」傑佛瑞被臭豆腐的味道嚇了一跳說。「好吧！我決定接受挑戰。走吧，我們進去吃一塊臭豆腐看看！反正也不會少一塊肉。」

大夥兒跟著傑佛瑞走進了店裏，蒂芬尼全程一直揑著鼻子。然而，當大家嚐到臭豆腐軟嫩的滋味時，立刻就迷上了這道佳餚。

「其實，吃起來也不賴嘛！」Eliza 邊吃邊說。

「請再來一碗臭豆腐！」蒂芬尼揮著手說。

Après leur visite au Musée national du Palais, le groupe d'amis décida de se rendre au célèbre marché de nuit de Shilin pour goûter à la nourriture de rue taïwanaise authentique (Xiao Chi en chinois).

"Oh mon Dieu, je pense que je commence à grossir avec tous ces délicieux plats taïwanais", s'exclama Claire en jetant un coup d'œil autour des étals, proposant toutes sortes de plats savoureux qui la tentaient avec leurs odeurs aromatiques.

"Alors tu devrais probablement sentir un peu de tofu puant. De cette façon, tu perdras probablement tout ton appétit!" répondit Blythe en plaisantant.

"En fait, ce n'est pas une mauvaise idée!" répondit Jeffrey. "J'ai beaucoup entendu parler de ce plat légendaire, mais je n'ai jamais eu l'occasion de l'essayer. J'aimerais voir à quel point ça peut être puant!"

Juste après que Jeffrey eut fini de parler, le groupe d'amis passa devant un étal de nourriture vendant du tofu puant de Shen Keng. Immédiatement, l'odeur piquante leur frappa le nez, comme si elle leur demandait de goûter au plat infâme.

"Whoa, c'est totalement inattendu!" s'exclama Jeffrey, surpris par le puissant arôme. "Défi accepté! Allez les gars, il n'y a rien à perdre, allons-y et commandons du tofus puants."

Le groupe d'amis suivit Jeffrey à contrecœur dans le restaurant, Tiffany se tenant le nez à fond. Néanmoins, après avoir pris une bouchée du succulent tofu en tenant le nez, ils étaient immédiatement enchantés par son goût unique.

"C'est pas aussi mauvais que j'pensais, en fait!" dit Eliza en prenant une autre bouchée.

"Un autre bol de tofu puant, s'il te plaît!" ordonna Tiffany après avoir dévoré sa part.

After their visit to the National Palace Museum, the group of friends decided to head to the famous Shilin Night Market to taste some Xiao Chi, a.k.a. authentic Taiwanese street food. 

"OMG, I think I'm getting fat with all these delicious Taiwanese food," exclaimed Claire as she glanced around the stalls, which offered all kinds of tasty food that were tempting her with their aromatic smells. 

"Then you should probably go smell some Stinky Tofu. That way, you'll probably lose all your appetite!" replied Blythe jokingly. 

"Actually, it's not a bad idea!" answered Jeffrey. "I've heard a lot about that legendary dish, but never got the chance to try it. I'd like to see just how stinky it can be!" 

Right after Jeffrey had finished talking, the group of friends passed a food stall selling Sheng Keng Stinky Tofu. Immediately, the pungent smell hit their noses, as if challenging them to taste the infamous dish. 

"Whoa, that's totally unexpected!" exclaimed Jeffrey, quite taken aback by the powerful aroma. "Challenge accepted! C'mon guys, there's nothing to lose, let's head in and order some stinky tofus." 

The group of friends reluctantly followed Jeffrey into the store with Tiffany holding her nose all the way. Nevertheless, after they've taken a bite of the succulent tofu whilst holding their noses, they were immediately enchanted by its unique taste. 

"It's not as bad as I thought, actually!" said Eliza, taking another bite. 

"Another bowl of stinky tofu, please!" ordered Tiffany after she devoured her portion.

大夥兒走進了一間餐廳，各點了一碗麵後，便坐下來開始討論他們下一個景點。

「你們等一下想去哪裡呀？」布萊問道。

「嗯～身為歷史系的畢業生，我自然想造訪國立故宮博物院，去看看那些中國封建時期所遺留下來的精美文物。」傑佛瑞答道。

「那間博物館有什麼特別的嗎？照理說，大部份有名的中國歷史文物應該都在中國大陸吧？」Eliza 一邊喝著珍珠奶茶，一邊說，

「那是個迷思！事實上，現今規模最龐大的中國古代文物並非在大陸，而在臺灣！」孝恩解釋道。「1949年國共內戰結束後，中國國民黨帶著當時紫禁城裏最稀有、最珍貴的歷史文物飄洋過海到了臺灣。」

「可是，較大項的文物應該都還在大陸吧？因爲那些這麼重，很難坐船度過台灣海峽。」Claire 問道。

「在1960年代之前，此言的確屬實。然而，當文化大革命在大陸爆發後，大批的古文物都被毀了。所幸，當時被運到台灣的文物都從這場浩劫倖存了下來！」傑佛瑞回答說。「在文革60多年後的今天，位在臺北的國立故宮博物院被視為擁有世界最大的中國古代文物的博物館。全館包含了範圍超過6000年的中國文物，從新石器時代到清朝的應有盡有。」

就在這時，他們點的食物來了。孝恩點了一碗台灣牛肉麵，傑佛瑞則點了臺南擔仔麵，其份量大的誇張，讓女生們都開始擔心自己點太多了。這時候，蒂芬尼吃完了蚵仔麵後，走進餐廳。

「蒂芬尼，妳來得正是時候！」Eliza 喊道。「快來幫我吃這超大碗的牛肉麵，我自己是不可能吃得完的！」

Le groupe d'amis entrèrent dans un restaurant qui avait de la cuisine taïwanaise authentique. Après avoir commandé chacun un bol de nouilles, le groupe d'amis commença à discuter de leurs destinations à venir.

"Alors, où voulez-vous aller ensuite?" s'enquit Blythe.

"Hmmm, étant un diplômé en histoire, j'aimerais naturellement visiter le Musée National du Palais et voir les étonnants artefacts impériaux chinois qu'il a à offrir", déclara Jeffrey pensivement.

"Qu'est-ce qu'il y a de si spécial dans ce musée? Sûrement, la plupart des anciens artefacts impériaux chinois célèbres sont en Chine?" dit Eliza en sirotant son thé aux perles.

"C'est ce que l'on penserait, mais en fait, la plus grande collection d'antiquités chinoises ne se trouve plus en Chine continentale, mais à Taïwan!" répondit Shaun. "Après la guerre civile chinoise en 1949, le chef du KMT - Tchang Kaï-Chek a emporté avec lui les œuvres d'art les plus raffinées et les plus fragiles de l'antiquité chinoise de La Cité Interdite et s'est retiré à Taïwan."

"Mais, sûrement, les plus gros doivent toujours être en Chine, car ils n'auraient pas pu être transportés à travers le détroit de Taïwan?" demanda Claire.

"C'était vrai jusqu'aux années 1960, lorsque la révolution culturelle dirigée par les communistes faisait rage en Chine, provoquant la destruction d'une grande partie des anciens artefacts chinois. Heureusement, ceux de Taiwan ont été sauvés de la catastrophe!" Jeffrey élucida. "Aujourd'hui, près de 60 ans après la Révolution Culturelle, le Musée National du Palais de Taipei est considéré comme ayant la plus grande collection d'antiquités chinoises au monde, qui s'étend sur plus de 6000 ans, du néolithique à la dynastie Qing."

En ce moment, leur nourriture était servie. Shaun commanda un bol de soupe aux nouilles au boeuf et Jeffrey commanda des nouilles Ta-a taïwanaises. La taille des portions était si grande que les filles commençaient à s'inquiéter de pouvoir finir de manger, lorsque Tiffany, après avoir fini sa vermicelle aux huîtres, entra dans le restaurant à leur recherche.

"Le timing parfait pour une fois, Tiffany!" s'exclama Eliza. "Viens m'aider à finir ce bol de soupe de nouilles au bœuf taïwanaise! Il est impossible que je le finisse toute seule."

The group of friends entered a restaurant selling authentic Taiwanese food. After having each ordered a bowl of noodles, the group of friends started discussing their upcoming destinations. 

"So, where do you guys want to head next?" enquired Blythe. 

"Hmmm, let's see, being a history major graduate, I'd naturally want to visit the National Palace Museum and view the amazing ancient Chinese imperial artifacts it has to offer," said Jeffrey pensively. 

"What's so special about that museum? Surely, most of the famous ancient Chinese imperial artifacts are in China?" said Eliza, as she sipped on her bubble tea. 

"That's what one would think, but in fact, the greatest collection of Chinese antiquities is now not in mainland China, but in Taiwan!" replied Shaun. "After the Chinese civil war in 1949, the leader of the KMT - Chiang Kai-shek took the finest and most fragile pieces of artwork of Chinese antiquity from the forbidden city with him and retreated to Taiwan."

"But, surely, the bigger ones must still be in the mainland, as they couldn't have been transported across the Taiwan Strait?" asked Claire.

"That was true, until the 1960s, when the Cultural Revolution led by the Communists raged in China, causing a huge portion of Chinese ancient artifacts to be completely destroyed. Luckily, the ones in Taiwan were saved from the catastrophe!" elucidated Jeffrey. "Now, nearly 60 years after the Cultural Revolution, the National Palace Museum in Taipei is regarded as having the world’s greatest collection of Chinese antiquities, ranging over 6000 years from the Neolithic age to the Qing dynasty."

At this moment, their food was served. Shaun ordered a bowl of Beef Noodle Soup and Jeffrey ordered Taiwanese Ta-a Noodles. The portion sizes was so large that the girls were starting to worry if they could actually finish their food, when Tiffany, after having finished her Oyster Vermicelli, walked into the restaurant, looking for them. 

"Perfect timing for once, Tiffany!" exclaimed Eliza. "Come and help me finish this bowl of Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup! There's no way I can finish this on my own."

隔天，經過了一晚的休息後，在導遊布萊的帶領下，大夥兒繼續他們在台北旅遊的行程。

早上十點，大家吃完了由布萊的外婆貼心準備的台灣式豐富早餐～蔥油餅、燒餅、以及手工豆漿後，大家走到了臺北市政府提供的大眾自行車共享服務～Youbike自行車站。除了不會騎單車的蒂芬尼得坐在Claire的自行車後座以外，他們都各租了一台腳踏車，並決定踩著單車一一造訪台北的著名觀光旅遊景點及地標。

他們的第一站是位於臺北市中正區的中正紀念堂，是爲紀念已故前中華民國總統蔣中正而興建的建築，也是台北著名的旅遊景點。大家在大廳看完了衛兵交接後，趕緊照了一張團體照，到此一遊。

他們下一個景點離中正紀念堂不遠，是家喻戶曉的西門町商圈。以年輕族群爲主要的消費對象，西門町是台灣的時尚新潮流及次文化的中心，每年吸引了許多國際觀光客以自助旅行造訪此處。

「哇！這裡就像倫敦的蘇活區啊！」Eliza 看著各式各樣的商店裡面所陳設的琳瑯滿目的商品說。

「難怪大家都說這裡是臺北的『原宿』，」前一年纔剛去過日本旅遊的傑佛瑞說。「可是，我覺得西門町更有魅力！」

突然，大家發現蒂芬尼不見了！
「眞是的，蒂芬尼跑到哪裡去啦？」Eliza 四處張望了一番，卻還是不見她高中同學的蹤影。「她這個麻煩精，一定是在人群中迷路了！」

「呵呵，別擔心，她在那兒呢！」布萊指著一個賣台灣蚵仔麵線的攤販笑著說。事實上，蒂芬尼走著走著，早餐吃的東西都全消化完了。正當她感到肚子餓時，就聞到了蚵仔麵線的香味，於是便迫不及待地去排隊了。

「哇！現在已經中午十二點半啦！」孝恩瞄了一眼手錶後說。「看來蒂芬尼的肚子比我的手錶還準呢！」大家都笑了。

Le lendemain, après avoir pris un repos bien mérité après 14 heures de vol, le groupe d'amis procéda à leur visite de la ville de Taipei, dirigée par Blythe.

Vers 10h, après un petit déjeuner taïwanais traditionnel et équilibré composé du célèbre œuf Pancake (Cong You Bing), du pain plat (Shao Bing) et du lait de soja fait maison - tous préparés par la grand-mère de Blythe, Blythe emmena ses amis dans une station Youbike, un service public de partage de vélos offert par le gouvernement de la ville de Taipei. Ils louèrent chacun un vélo, à l'exception de Tiffany qui ne savait pas comment en conduire un et qui devait s'asseoir à l'arrière du vélo de Claire et décidèrent de faire du vélo autour de Taipei tout en visitant des attractions touristiques célèbres.

On the following day, after having had a well-deserved rest from the 14-hour flight, the group of friends proceeded with their city tour in Taipei led by Blythe.

At around 10am, after a wholesome, traditional Taiwanese breakfast consisted of the famous Egg Pancake (Cong You Bing), Flatbread (Shao Bing) and homemade soya milk - all prepared by Blythe's grandma, Blythe took her friends to a Youbike station, which is a public bicycle sharing service offered by the Taipei City Government. They each rented a bicycle, except for Tiffany who did not know how to ride one and had to sit on the back of Claire's bicycle, and decided to cycle around Taipei whilst visiting famous tourist attractions and landmarks.

Their first destination was the well-known Chiang Kai-shek Memorial hall, a national monument, landmark and tourist attraction erected in memory of Generalissimo Chiang Kai-shek, former President of the Republic of China. After watching the guard mounting ceremony in the main hall, they took a group photo of this special building. 

Their next destination, which was very close to the memorial hall, was the shopping district of Ximending, which is the go-to place for young Taiwanese people, as it is the hub of Taiwan's fashion and subculture.

"Wow, this is just like the Soho district in London," marvelled Eliza as she glanced at the wide variety of stalls selling all sorts of things, from "I love Taiwan" T-Shirts and Japanese comic books to vintage records.

"No wonder they say this is the Harajuku of Taipei," mused Jeffrey, who had been to Japan the year before. "But, somehow, I feel like Ximending has even more charm."

Suddenly, they discovered that Tiffany was missing.
"OMG, where's Tiffany? " enquired Eliza as she glanced around, but couldn't perceive her high-school classmate. "Oh, bother! She must've got lost in the crowd!"

"Don't worry, she's over there!" smiled Blythe as she pointed at a food stall selling Taiwanese oyster vermicelli. In fact, Tiffany, after walking around for such a long time, began to feel hungry and was tempted by the aromatic smell of the delicious noodles served with savoury oyster soup.

"Wow, it's half past twelve already!" exclaimed Shaun after glancing at his watch. "Looks like Tiffany's tummy is better at telling the time than my watch." They all laughed.

蒂芬尼終於決定她的室友後，Claire 和布萊的外婆帶著她們到走廊另一端的房間。這間臥室雖小，卻非常溫馨，裏面擺了一張雙人床、舒適的單人沙發，還有一扇窗戶，可以眺望臺北市摩登的天際線。

「哇！這間臥室超讚的，謝謝姥姥！」Claire 說。

「我就知道你會喜歡，這間臥室是你媽媽以前的房間呢！」老太太笑著說。

Après que Tiffany ait choisi sa colocataire pendant son séjour à Taïwan, la grand-mère de Claire et Blythe les emmenèrent dans une autre chambre dans le même couloir. C'était une chambre petite mais confortable avec un lit double, un fauteuil et une grande fenêtre donnant sur le skyline moderne de Taipei.

"Wow! J'adore cette pièce, merci beaucoup, Mamie!" dit Claire

"Je savais que tu aimerais, car c'était la chambre de ta mère avant qu'elle ne se marie!" répondit la vieille dame taïwanaise en souriant comme si elle était perdue dans ses pensées nostalgiques.

After Tiffany has decided upon her roommate, Claire and Blythe's grandma took them to another bedroom on the same corridor. It was a small but cozy bedroom with a double bed, a comfortable armchair and a large window overlooking Taipei's modern skyline.

"Wow! I love this room, thanks so much, grandma!" said Claire.

"I knew you'd like it, as this was your mum's room before she got married!" replied the old lady, smiling, as if lost in nostalgic thoughts.

「噢，對了！不好意思讓你們在外面站這麼久。趕緊進來坐吧！」布萊的外婆說。「我帶你們參觀一下寒舍，你們可以挑完房間、把行李放好，就可以好好兒休息一下了。坐了這麼久的飛機，你們肯定累壞了！」

說畢，外婆便帶領著大家進入她住的公寓裏。雖然公寓有許多間空房，然而卻非常溫馨，讓大夥兒頓時感覺彷彿回到自己家一般的舒適。老太太先帶大家走進一間摩登臥室，其內部擺了兩張單人床以及一個衣櫃，還有一扇很大的窗戶，透過窗戶可以眺望臺北市中心的城市天際線。

「這間臥室給男生們住！」布萊的外婆說。

「哇！這裡的風景太美了！」傑佛瑞立刻走向窗邊說。「我特別喜歡擁有多棟獨特摩天大廈的臺北天際線。哇！從這個角度還可以看見台北101呢！」

「我就知道你會喜歡！」老太太笑著說。「好了！現在去看看女生的房間吧！」

"Oups, désolée de vous garder ici si longtemps," continua la grand-mère. "Je vais vous montrer mon appartement et vous emmener dans vos chambres pour que vous puissiez y laisser vos bagages et vous rafraîchir un peu. Vous devez être très épuisés après un vol si long!"

Tout en parlant, la grand-mère de Blythe les conduisit à l'intérieur de son appartement et leur montra leurs chambres respectives. Malgré beaucoup de chambres était inutilisées dans l'appartement, elles étaient si propres et confortables que le groupe d'amis se sentirent immédiatement comme à sa propre maison dès leur arrivée.

La grand-mère de Blythe les conduisit d'abord à une chambre moderne avec deux lits séparés et une armoire. La chambre avait une grande fenêtre donnant sur le centre-ville de Taipei, mettant en valeur son skyline moderne.

"Cette pièce est pour les garçons", présenta la grand-mère de Blythe.

"Wow! J'adore la vue ici!" admira Jeffrey qui regarda immédiatement par la fenêtre. "J'aime beaucoup le skyline de Taipei, avec ses nombreux gratte-ciels uniques. Regarde! On peut même voir le célèbre Taipei 101 sous cet angle!"

"Je suis content que vous l'aimez!" sourit la grand-mère taïwanaise avec bienveillance. "Maintenant, nous passons aux chambres des filles."

"Oops, sorry for keeping you out here for so long," continued Grandma. "I'll show you around my apartment and take you to your rooms so you can leave your luggage there and freshen up a bit. You must be all very exhausted after such a long flight!"

Whilst speaking, Blythe's grandma led them inside the flat and showed them their rooms. Despite having many unused bedrooms in the flat, they were so clean and cozy such that the group of friends immediately felt right at home the moment they stepped in.

"This room here is for the boys," introduced Blythe's grandma.

"Wow! I love the view here!" admired Jeffrey as he immediately looked out of the window. "I really like Taipei's skyline as it has so many unique-looking skyscrapers. Wow! We can even see the famous Taipei 101 from this angle!"

"I'm glad you like it!" smiled Blythe's grandma benevolently. "Now, let's move on to the girls' rooms."
