In November, 1274 AD, during the Battle of Bun'ei, Mongolian troops, who had just recently defeated the Song Dynasty in China and founded the Yuan Dynasty, invaded Japan. From the port of Masan in Southern Korea, the Mongols launched an attack on Japan; first seizing the island of Tsushima and then, Iki.
Easily overcoming the desperate resistance of the residents and the samurais, the Mongols ruthlessly slaughtered many of its opponents and captured its leaders, including Hojo Tokimune, the famous leader of the Kamakura Shogunate, and other Samurai leaders as hostages.
The Mongolian Leader Kublai Khan said that if they surrendered to the Mongolian Empire, they would not be killed, but if they refused, their heads would fall to the ground in less than a fortnight.
However, the loyal Samurai soldiers, who were determined to sacrifice their lives for their country, refused to surrender. Therefore, the hostages were transported back to the Mongolian base and pushed into a dungeon, waiting for their execution.
Just then, one of the Japanese military magistrates: Goda Totoshi, surrendered to the Mongolian soldier, and were taken to meet Kublai Khan.
After the Mongolian army had left, Hojo Tokimune said to the other remaining three Samurai Generals, "We must never be like that traitor Goda and surrender to the ruthless Mongols, even if it means sacrificing ourselves. I believe that, despite the superior technology of the Mongolian Army, God will eventually grant us victory, just wait and see. Even if we became ghosts, we will haunt the life of that traitor Goda, until he has also sacrificed for our great country!!"
"Yes, sir!" the three Samurai Generals replied in one voice.
To whom will God eventually grant the victory to?
