Dorothy was strolling along the yellow brick road with Toto when she suddenly heard a low, husky voice calling.
"Excuse me, miss! Excuse me! Could you please free me from my current, uncomfortable position? I would appreciate your kindness very much."
The bewildered Dorothy glanced around but no one was to be found. Just when she was about to give up looking and continue her stroll, the voice spoke again.
"Hullo, I am right here, in the field!"
Dorothy jerked her head round suddenly to find it was a scarecrow half-hidden amongst the sunflower fields, talking to her!
"Aha! Here comes the scarecrow, just like in the story of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz." Dorothy thought to herself.
She strolled over and untied the scarecrow from on the the sunflowers.
"Thank you! Thank you very much! I am very much obliged to you!" The scarecrow thanked Dorothy true-heartedly, and then inquired, "I see that you are going along the Yellow Brick Road to meet the Great Wizard of Oz. Is it possible that you can do me another favour?"
"Let me guess!" Dorothy said playfully, "You want me to take you along with me to meet the Wizard of Oz!"
"Yes, indeed! How did you know that?" The scarecrow asked astonishingly.
"And.....I also know.....that you would like to ask the Wizard to give you a brain so you can gain intelligence and wisdom. Am I not right?" Dorothy continued.
"You must be a fairy or something!" replied the scarecrow, "How is it possible that you can read my mind!?"
"Ah, it's just......it's nothing.....I guessed it!" Dorothy was about to tell the scarecrow how she has read the Wonderful Wizard of Oz but thought better of it. "Let's quickly get a move on then, cause I would like to see the wizard, too!"
Dorothy and the scarecrow chatted away happily whilst strolling down the yellow brick road. They discovered that they had a lot in common, which made conversation between them very natural. The scarecrow especially loved to listen to Dorothy telling him of where she used to live, and how it was like over there.
One day, whilst passing through a dense, lush forest, they encountered a warrior in their path.
"Hello there!" The warrior greeted them politely, and then inquired, "I see that you are going along the Yellow Brick Road, is there any chance that you are going to see the Great Wizard of Oz?"
"Yes, yes indeed we are!" responded the scarecrow.
"Well, I guess I am in luck today!" cheered the warrior jubilantly, "Cause I would like to see the wizard myself as well."
"Hmmm.....this is different to the story!" Dorothy thought to herself, "Instead of meeting 'The Tin-man', we met a warrior!"
"Hmmmm....let me guess! You would like to ask the Wizard to give you a heart!" said Dorothy playfully.
"Yes! Well, sort of..... How did you know that?" the warrior was absolutely amazed by Dorothy's remark.
"Indeed, I have been a warrior fighting for my country for the past years of my life; and now that my country doesn't need me anymore, I would like to do something for myself. I feel that although I may be excellent in war strategy, I am in short of a loving heart that knows how to love and care for others. I would like to ask the Wizard to grant me not just a normal, beating heart; but one that knows how to love and care." the warrior thus explained the cause for his wish to see the Wizard.
"How shall we address you as?" the scarecrow inquired.
"Just call me 'The Tin-man', that's what they used to call me back in the old days." the warrior answered.
