Time flies, ten years had elapsed in a blink of an eye, Rapunzel soon turned from a little girl to a beautiful woman of eighteen, with long, golden hair, as Gothel never took her to the hairdressers since she started living in the tower.
時光飛逝，轉眼間，羅鵬珠從一位小女孩變成了一位十八歲的妙齡少女。因為鼓瑟自從羅鵬珠搬進高塔裡後都沒有帶她去剪頭髮，所以，在十八歲時，她已留著一頭美麗長髮。
On Rapunzel's eighteenth birthday, she still went through the same routines every day. She went up onto the glass tower, stayed their for one hour, enjoying the warm rays of the morning sunshine. At least by now, she was no longer afraid to look across onto the other side of the river bank from the glass tower, however, she still dared not look down. Then after that, she opened a huge window in the glass tower and threw her long, braided threw the window, watching it drop. Again, this was her Aunt Gothel's idea: "If she sees her hair falling down and nothing happens to it, she'll soon overcome her acrophobia."
在羅鵬珠十八歲生日那天，還是一樣每天做著重複的事情。每天一大早，她就走到玻璃塔上，待在那兒一小時，享受早晨溫暖的陽光。至少現在她已不再怕透過玻璃看著河流的對岸，然而她還是不敢往下看。之後，她將一個大窗戶打開，並將長長、綁辮子的秀髮從窗外往下丟；顯然，這也是鼓瑟的餿主意：「如果她每天看著自己的頭髮掉下去都沒事兒，很快地她就不會再有懼高症了！」鼓瑟心想。
Afterwards, Gothel would take Rapunzel to the starting point of the long flight of stairs without railings, and see if she could then overcome her fears of walking down the stairs from such a height. But again, Rapunzel's teeth chattered, eyes watered and her knees gave way under her weight. She was still unable to overcome acrophobia.
然後，鼓瑟會帶著羅鵬珠到沒有扶手的長長樓梯的起點，看她能不能順利克服懼高症，自己走下樓。然而，就和以往一樣，羅鵬珠的牙齒開始打顫兒，眼睛流出了眼淚，膝蓋開始抖動；依然無法克服恐懼。
"This won't do, Rapunzel!" Gothel scolded her sternly, "You're eighteen years old now, and you still can't overcome your fears. I'm getting old now, how on Earth will you survive without me to get you downstairs?"
「這樣不行呀，羅鵬珠！」鼓瑟斥責道。「你現在已經十八歲了，還是無法克服恐懼。我已經一天一天老了，你總不能一直靠我上下樓梯啊！」
"Aunty, it's simple....I'll just live in a house situated on the ground floor, problem solved." Rapunzel replied, rolling her eyes.
「姑姑，這個簡單，以後我不要住在有樓梯的房子裡不就成了？」羅鵬珠翻著白眼說。
"No! It is your father's dying wish that you can overcome your acrophobia, and I'm appointed the mission of curing you from that...." Gothel went on with her ramblings again as they re-entered the house.
「不可以！那是你父親的遺言，他託付我將你的懼高症治療好的重任.....」鼓瑟又開始碎碎唸了。
That afternoon, Gothel announced that there was a visitor as there was a knock on their door. Rapunzel, who was staring at her own reflection in the mirror, when she turned around and was astonished to discover a young man standing by the doorway.
那天下午，鼓瑟聽到了有人敲門後說有一個訪客要來。羅鵬珠正在照鏡子，回頭一看，赫然看見一名年輕男子站在門口。
"This is my new assistant- Jack, a recent graduate of psychotherapy, who is doing a project on acrophobia. I invited him to come and take a look at your case." Gothel announced.
「這是我的新助理：傑克。他剛從大學心理治療系畢業，現在在做一項有關懼高症的研究。我邀請他來看看你的例子。」鼓瑟宣布道。
"Aunty, you could've told me that someone is coming!" Rapunzel exclaimed.
「姑姑，你怎麼沒有提早通知我有人要來？」羅鵬珠說。
"What is the use? So you can dress up? We're not hosting a party, Rapunzel, this is a medical research. Show some respect." Aunt Gothel snapped. "Rapunzel, go back to the stairs and show Jack your reactions when situated in a high position without support. Jack, take notes!"
「通知你幹嘛？你要梳妝打扮嗎？這不是一場舞會，而是科學研究。你給我尊重點兒！」鼓瑟罵道。「羅鵬珠，回到樓梯口，給傑克看看你居高臨下時會有什麼反應。傑克，記得做筆記！」
Rapunzel, seeing that there was no point arguing with her aunt, walked silently to the stairs, and again, her teeth chattered, eyes watered and her knees gave way under her weight. All the while, Jack, the assistant, was busily taking notes.
羅鵬珠想著和姑姑爭辯也沒什麼益處，只好默默走到樓梯口。一樣的事情發生了，她的牙齒開始打顫兒，眼睛流出了眼淚，膝蓋開始抖動；依然無法克服恐懼。傑克忙著在一旁做筆記。
By the end of this visit, Rapunzel was so annoyed that she locked herself in her room and refused to eat dinner. "I'm not an experiment!" She wanted to scream out loud. "I'm a human being! How could you embarrass me so?"
訪客走後，羅鵬珠氣到把自己關在房間裡，拒絕出來吃晚餐。「我不是實驗品啊！」她很想大叫說。「我是個活生生的人類呀！妳竟然這樣不顧我的感受。」
What she didn't know was that the moment Jack fell in love with the beautiful Rapunzel the moment he set eyes upon her, and he frequently came to their place to see Rapunzel, using his research as an excuse.
羅鵬珠所不知道的是：傑克看到她後就對美麗的羅鵬珠一見鍾情，往後，他時常以要做報告作為藉口來拜訪羅鵬珠。
However, on the other hand, Rapunzel her hate towards him only developed with every visit.
然而，羅鵬珠對傑克的討厭只是與日俱增。
"He is just like my aunt, only worse. At least Aunty loves me. But he sees me like I'm a chimpanzee in a zoo!" Rapunzel thought to himself.
「他比我姑姑還糟！至少姑姑很愛我，但是他只不過把我當成實驗品看，讓我感覺我自己好像動物園裡的黑猩猩！」羅鵬珠心想。
Jack disapproved the harsh ways of Gothel whilst trying to cure Rapunzel's acrophobia.
傑克其實並不贊同鼓瑟嚴厲的方法去治療羅鵬珠。
"We should use encouragement to make her feel that she is doing better instead of forcing her upon things she hate, which will only make her fear worse as she'll associate it with her hatred." Many times, Jack tried to approach Gothel and dissuade her from continuing her ways.
「我們應該要用鼓勵代替逼迫，因為強迫只會讓她的症狀愈來愈糟糕，她會開始將討厭和懼高症連在一起看待。」好幾次傑克都試圖說服鼓瑟換換方法。
"What do you know? I have more experience than you and I know my ways. Besides, this is family business. Who are you to interfere?" Gothel would reply curtly.
「你知道什麼？我比你有經驗多了，我自己知道我在幹嘛。再說，這是家務事，你管得著嗎？」鼓瑟會簡短地回答道。
