Without warning, a huge grumbling sound came from underneath the platform, which sounded like the machine was broken.
"OMG, please don't tell me that Mr Gorilla has broken the machine by landing on it!" Claire thought to herself. Without warning, the floor underneath the platform disappeared, then it re-emerged, bringing Kaho and Hong to the surface.
"OMG, we did it! Hooray! We saved the day!" exclaimed Claire and Eliza as they embraced each other in ecstasy.
"Dr Stein, I've already called the police, you will be arrested for intentional fraud." Tom appeared in his royal guard costume.
"Hello, what happened to animal cruelty and unethical manipulation of human DNA? Shouldn't he be responsible for these as well?" exclaimed Claire.
"Well, he isn't because he hasn't done any of that!" replied Tom casually, "Why don't you tell us about your trick before the police arrives, Dr Stein!"
"Wait, trick? What's all this about?" declared Eliza.
"Yeah, he's right, all of this was just a trick," affirmed Dr Stein as he nodded his head guiltily. "I've never had a wife, let along a deceased wife. The story of how I was trying to merge the DNA of two pageant girls to bring back my dead wife was all just a trick. Only the project was real.....for the past ten years, I've been researching on how to merge DNA of two animals to make a clone combination of the two and was completely unsuccessful. I was desperate to achieve something as the government has threatened to stop funding me if I don't produce anything, even if I decide to start a new project. Then, I've read this story online that triggered my imagination to create this make-believe DNA merge so that I can gain fame and recognition....."
"But what about this machine.....and....why all this fuss?" enquire the bewildered Eliza.
"Well, I deliberately set up all this 'fuss' to get the attention of the PMSSO, so they can eventually take it to the news."elucidated Dr Stein , "I knew you two were spies the moment you walked in as I was prepared: everyone in the pageant were paid, part-time actors and actresses.....yes, even the two girls that argued and was disqualified were actresses. I needed a convincing story, so I programmed a robot to possess features that are similar to the two planned winning contestants, so you would think that I have really merged their DNA. And I've made up the plot of how I was cheating on Elaine with her BFF, so she would press the undo button herself to be destroyed. Hence, there will be no evidence that the DNA merge never existed.....until you girls ruined it!"
"So, are you saying that we didn't save the day, but everything was supposed to turn out like this even without us?" exclaimed the devastated Claire, "You know what? Now I feel that even the dust on that wall is more useful than I am."
"No, you're wrong." replied Dr Stein. "I thought you two were just newbie spies, and you wouldn't be able to make any difference. Your sole presence in this was so that you'll be able to become witnesses to my fake DNA merge. I guess I was wrong. You two really showed your potential, teaching me not to judge anyone by their appearances."
"Wait....what about that robot-man?" demanded Eliza.
"He's also a fake, he was not a half-man-half robot, he was just a robot! And FYI, I was never bullied at school, often, I was the bully." Dr Stein just had time to respond before the police arrived and escorted him away.
