Chapter 1- The Transformation (Part I)
第一章～改變 （第一話）
It was yet another boring Saturday for the ten-year-old Victor at the clinic, whose Saturdays were very different to those of other children. Instead of going outside to play or hang out with friends, Victor had to 'stay and sit quietly' and 'do whatever he wants' in the dental clinic where both his parents work. His father, being a dentist himself, was the owner of the dental clinic; and his mother was the nurse and assistant.
又是一個無聊的星期六早晨，十歲的維特的星期六總是和其他的孩子有所不同。他不是出去玩兒或是去找朋友，而得『乖乖坐著』在他爸媽工作的牙醫診所裏。他的爸爸自己既是牙醫師，也是這間診所的老闆，他的媽媽則是護士兼助理。
It was the same every weekend for Victor, sitting on an armchair, staring into space, or looking at his parents keeping themselves busy with the clients. As everybody knows, weekends are the busiest days at the dentists'.
每個週末對維特來說都是一樣的～不是自己一個人坐在單人沙發上發呆，就是看著爸爸、媽媽在那兒忙進忙出。因為，想必大家都知道，週末對牙醫診所來說是最忙碌的時段了。
Although he blamed his cause of boredom onto the fact that he was not allowed to go out to play, in reality, it was because he didn't quite have the opportunity, as it's not that he had many friends anyways. In fact, our main character this time was a snobbish and arrogant child, who neither possessed the word 'caring' in his life-dictionary, nor did he strive to make himself kind and helping.
雖然他把自己很無聊這個事實怪罪於爸媽不讓他出去玩，然而，事實上，他也沒有機會，因為他也沒什麼朋友。我們這次故事的主角是一個傲慢又自大的小孩，他的人生字典裏不但沒有『關懷』這兩個字，他也不想要讓自己變得更友善。
But he didn't care at all about not having any friends, anyways. "Who needs friends when I have these?" Victor thought to himself again, for maybe the hundredths time, or even more, as he walked towards a small cabinet, where he kept his pets- two mice.
但是，他根本就不在乎沒有朋友啊！「誰需要朋友呀？我有他們就夠啦！」維特一邊想著，一邊走近一個裏面放著他的寵物～兩隻老鼠的玻璃櫥窗。
His hobbies were very different to the other boys of his age, he did not at all enjoy playing football under the blazing hot sun, nor did he like to play 'the childish game' of hide and seek; on the contrary, he enjoyed observing and researching about animals, insects, and all kinds of living organisms that one could possibly think of.
他的興趣也和其他孩子不同，他絲毫不喜歡在太陽底下踢足球，也討厭玩『那幼稚的遊戲』～躲貓貓。相反的，他特別喜歡觀察與研究各式各樣的動物及昆蟲。
Amongst his favourites of all animals were mice, as he loved to do experiments on them. This time, he took out the darker-coloured mouse from the cabinet, hid behind a screen. Then, after he saw a little girl walking past, he released the mouse, which scuttled towards the unaware victim.
其中他最喜歡的就是老鼠了，因為他喜歡在他們身上做實驗。這次，他從櫥窗內拿出了毛色較深的那隻老鼠，並埋伏在一個屏風後面。等到看到一個小女孩兒經過時，他便放開小老鼠，讓牠跑向毫無警覺的女孩旁邊。
"Aaah!" Then came a high-pitched scream from the poor girl, who was so scared that she fell onto the floor and started crying.
「啊！！」又是一陣尖叫，可憐的女孩兒被嚇得跌坐在地上，並開始嚎啕大哭了起來。
The naughty Victor, who was hiding behind the screen and 'watching the show', as he like to call it, chuckled to himself. "Girls are so cowardly, it's fun watching them being so scared!" he thought to himself.
頑皮的維特躲在屏風後面一邊『看好戲』，一邊偷笑著。「女生好膽小啊！看她們被嚇到的樣子真好玩兒！」他暗暗地想著。
Yes, it was the same routine every weekend, but Victor never seemed to get tired of it.
是的，每個週末都得上演同一齣戲，可是維特怎樣也看不膩。
However, what was different this time was this:
然而，這次不一樣的是：
Suddenly, a tutting sound came from behind the chuckling Victor, "Tut, tut, tut, you naughty boy!"
突然，維特聽到了一陣嘖嘖聲從背後傳來。「嘖嘖嘖，你這個頑皮的小男孩！」
As Victor turned around, he was astonished to perceive that an old lady with snow-white hair, who was wearing a Chinese traditional dress was standing on the other side of the screen, behind him.
維特轉過身來後，驚訝地發現一位留著一頭白髮、並穿著中式旗袍的老太太不知在何時突然出現了在他的身後。
"If you continue being such a naughty boy, beware that one day you'll turn into a mouse!" The old lady with a strange smile on her face said in a deep, but clear voice.
「你若是再這樣繼續頑皮下去，小心有一天你會變成一隻老鼠喲！」老太太臉上掛著詭異的笑容、用著低沈但宏亮的聲音說。
Victor, despite being a bit shocked by what the old lady said, quickly reacted, "How's that possible? Don't think you can fool me with such unscientific words! Welcome to the twenty-first century, old lady!" Then, he stuck out his tongue and ran away.
維特雖然被老太太的話下了一跳，但馬上反應說：「那怎麼可能呀？別想用你那毫無科學根據的話來嚇唬我。歡迎來到二十一世紀～老太太！」說畢，維特便吐出舌頭，然後就跑走了。
