Only after the last strike of the clock did the detectives begin to perceive a faint sound of music. "Hurry!" They exclaimed in one voice and dashed downstairs to try and locate the other piano.
Nonetheless, due to the fact that the light was too dim in the living room, Jeffrey tripped over a turned-up corner of the carpet and fell on his face on the floor.
"Gosh, you alright?" enquired Shaun, trying not to laugh.
"Hey, come and listen!" Jeffrey said as he placed his ear on the floor, "The music seems louder here." As he moved his ear closer to the music, Jeffrey discovered that the music seemed to be coming from behind the Victorian bookcase in the living room.
"Hey, Shaun, listen," Jeffrey said, "Is it just me, or does the music seem to be coming from behind this bookcase?"
After Shaun placed his ear next to the bookcase, he affirmed the view of his friend and answered pensively, "There must be a secret room or something behind this bookcase that may be concealing the other piano, if only we can activate this mechanism, we'll be able to get to the bottom of this mystery."
Hence, the detectives began to do everything they could to try and activate the mechanism, Jeffrey opened every single drawer whilst Shaun pulled out every single book one by one.
As if by magic, after Shaun has pulled out a thick, cumbersome book with a blue cover, the bookcase gradually slid to the right, revealing the entrance to a secret tunnel. "Bingo!" Jeffrey exclaimed as they rushed to enter the tunnel.
After some time of being plunged into complete darkness, the detectives eventually reached the end of the tunnel, leading to a flight of steps going downwards. "I didn't know that there is a basement in this house!" Jeffrey mumbled to himself, feeling extremely excited. "I wonder where it'll lead us!"
"It'll lead us right to the heart of the entire mystery," replied Shaun, with a satisfied smile on his face.
