In fact, the reason why the spies gasped in astonishment after having perceived Emily's marked map was because there seemed to be an ambiguous pattern. "This looks like an unfinished X," concluded Eliza as she traced the mountain-like pattern with her fingers. "But this is way too hard to predict the next location.....I mean, it could be here, here or here."
"Or, it could be a Chinese character for the word 'in'," suggested Claire.
"Or.....this may not be an unfinished X," responded Emily slowly in her pensive tone. "It could be a Lambda, a letter in the Greek alphabet."
"OMG OMG OMG!" exclaimed Claire in excitement.
"What's up? Has the caffeine in your morning coffee finally caught up with you?" enquired Eliza jokingly.
"Wait a minute......" mumbled Claire as she grabbed Emily's laptop and started to search on the web frantically. "D'you remember what the name of the Botanist, the one we went to her lecture, is?"
"I think it's Mandy Marlow? I'm not sure though..." said Eliza hesitantly, "To be frank, I was barely listening when Heather was talking about her. Why are you asking?"
"OMG, guys, take a look at this!" said Claire as she pointed at a web page introducing Dr Mandy Marlow.
"Gosh! It says that Mandy Marlow was actually Greek, but was adopted by a British family, and she married an American man ten years ago," read Eliza. "What a huge gossip! But, what's that gotta to with our mission?"
"It also says here that she especially likes to use volcanic mud as fertilisers for her genetically-modified, synthetic radiation-absorbing plants," noted Emily.
"And she recently found her true parents, whose surname begins with the Greek Alphabet Lambda," added Eliza
"Looks like we've got our case solved already!" beamed Emily.
"How did you think of her?" queried Eliza.
"I thought about what Emily said earlier about using volcanic mud as a fertiliser for plants," explained Claire. "Then, I remembered that Dr Marlow mentioned this in her lecture this morning."
"I thought you were asleep!" said Eliza.
"I was, until I heard volcanic mud, then, I woke up as I thought she's gonna talk about volcanic mud facial masks - the most popular type of facial mask. LOL!" replied Claire.
"Anyway, you're an absolute genius, Claire!" praised Emily. "Now there is only one possible place on the map that can be the next volcanic eruption."
"Hooray! I knew we could do this together!" The girls high-fived each other in celebration for their exceptional detective-skills.
Having located the place of the next volcanic eruption, the spies were back in the deep ocean with their scuba-diving gear.
"Let's spread out to look for any clues," said Emily. "I sincerely hope we're not too late."
